Just Some Randoms

1. I read this weekend that if you run out of cleaner and need to mop tile or vinyl, you can add a cap full of Listerine to a bucket of water and use that. Great.

2. I read this weekend that if you are giving yourself a pedicure at home, a cup of warm milk added to water will take the dead skin off your feet while they soak. Great.

3. I got my hair cut and it makes me happier than I can communicate.

4. It is telling that such a dramatic change in my hair (couple inches) can go completely unnoticed by so many (my husband excluded). Just goes to show that not nearly as many people are concerned with me as I am.

5. I am calling tomorrow and going back to the dentist. My tooth is STILL not right and now that May (aka "The Month That Nearly Killed Us") is over I am ready to put the two month headache to rest.

6. I have started work on the back porch and plan to claim it as my own in no time at all. Honey brought my craft cabinet up today and I have set about bring order to the chaos. Anyone need an absurd amount of popsicle sticks??? Little umbrellas for pineapple?

And now I have a serious question. This is not to be mistaken for some crazy way to get all readers to leave a comment - no I am not manipulating that (this time). I have a real question and am looking for help. So, this is the time for all good folk to come to the aid of their virtual friend. . .

I have a list of books I really want to read. And then there are the two books I have committed to read this summer for studies of some kind or other. Really, I have a list going in my notebook and it's almost two full pages of titles; books I want to read. WHEN do you guys read? Please share any secret. I want details, folks. This is an area I want to develop in and you are part of my research.

If you don't read, you can tell me that too! Misery loves company. (It may not bother you that you don't read, but I am miserable about it and would love the company of knowing others don't do it. Aren't I pathetic?)

Looking forward to it. . .

If I read, it is during naptime. all three of mine usually go down at 1:30 for at least an hour. That is a big "if" and I believe this is just a phase of life. I have to be honest, I don't feel bad about it. I try to do 2 days a week. For a mom with almost 4 year old Jordan and the two babies I feel good about twice a week.

I don't read very much, but I do read. I do it when ever I want, if the kids see me reading, they will often times want my attention, but sometimes they respect the "mom time." Also - if you want your kids to do what you think is important they have to SEE it. If they SEE you reading, they will know it's real, and important. Encourage them to look at books when you do. Often my kids say, "will you read this to me?" I say, Yes, I will read it ONCE, then it's your turn to read it.

Hmmm, do you really wnat to know? I have a few books I am reading at one time. I store them every where car, bedroom, travel bag, purse and even the office. I am often found on the toy-toy reading... I know TMI!

I don't read anymore and it's killing me - the girl who used to live for bookclub...so you're not alone at all, sister.

I don't get to read much either. I used to read when I was nursing, but those days are gone. Right now, I leave a book in the kids bathroom and read when they are taking a bath. It's only 10 minutes but it's better than nothing! And I read when I have to do carpool pick-up once a week. And sometimes before bed. Since there's not much on TV this summer, I'll read after the kids go to bed.
Here's my question to you: When do you find time/space to scrapbook at home? :)

I read when my two are napping, when I am nursing, or when I am staking out Samuel's room in the hallway when he is stalling going to sleep. I also have DEAR time - from my teaching days. We all "Drop Everything And Read" for about 10-15 minutes a day (everyone but the baby). Samuel reads his books while I am reading mine.

I miss the days when I could read for hours on end. :)

I read while I dry my hair. It's only about 5-10 minutes, but I look forward to it everyday! Before the days of our DVR, I would read while a favorite show was on commercial.

honesty...i love taking baths and reading there (that happens maybe once a week--i have a great husband!) i read while pottying, both personally and while sitting with julia while she goes. if i am immersed in a good read, lots of other things that need to get done, don't. and at night. i love to curl up and bed and read at night. but, i think this is key--at this season of my life, most of my reading is strictly brainless stuff. the days of reading piper endlessly are on hold.
funny, because i was thinking today, "i wonder when becky does all of her crafts. probably when i am playing family feud on fb!" :)

I read more when the tv and Internet are not consuming my time. Since all my shows have ended, I plan on reading before bedtime and maybe hide our in the potty when hubby is home.

I am interested in the book list too.

I read....a lot. That's probably while my kids are misbehaving-a lot! Any chance I get, I read. The other day I read "Redeeming Love" in two settings. My favorite time to read though is at night. After I put the kiddos down(by 8:30), not a second later-I read until 10 or 11 PM. I know you might be exhausted then, but it's YOUR time, it's usually uninterrupted, and it's right before bed- so it can help you sleep, and have good dreams/thought processing. My advice: doesn't matter when-just try to schedule it. Live by design, not default! Happy Reading Becky! :-)

Take a book everywhere you go then you can snag a page here and there. At the dr. or dentist, stuck in traffic etc. My favorite time is bedtime. It helps me to relax even if you only get a page in before you are falling asleep.

I am with you on #3 & 4! I got about 5-6 inches cut off this spring and got very few comments. (Then again, maybe they just didn't like the cut and were trying to be nice. :)

As for reading, these days I get the most done during nighttime feedings. :) But since I doubt that's very helpful for you (nor is it a long term solution), my next best thing is that I don't watch TV at night. Sometimes I still have enough energy to squeeze out a chapter or two.

Sometimes during nap time, if I'm not napping myself. Most of the time at night. It helps me fall asleep. I'm not a fast reader, so it takes me forever to finish something, if I ever do.

I will be your company in your misery - because I, too, am miserable about not being able to read as I would like to. Most any day that I sit down to read during my kids' naptime, I fall asleep. Not because the book is bad, but because if I am stationary, my body goes in to sleep mode. Yesterday, Sophie and I were looking at her baby book and i went into coma mode. I could not keep my eyes open. I passed out right there on her bed and when I woke up 20 min later, she was asleep next to me.

ANYWAY...the only time I get to read is when I am on vacation (without a newborn) and I have family on vacation with us who are watching my kids. That's how I read "Memoirs of a Geisha" last summer at the beach. It was AWESOME but I COULD NOT put it down. The next book that I read was "A praying life" which I started on our anniversary vacation in January and read over half of it. Since January and being back into normal life, I have probably read a total of 6-8 chapters in the last 4 months.

So there you go.
Hope you feel better! :)
And my Mom always tells me that once my kids are grown, I'll have TONS of time to read and catch up. So I'm planning on that.
