Bubba and I have been working through a Kumon coloring book - one picture a day. This guy Kumon developed a method that helped his child build skill upon skill to learn hand control, letters, and even math. We have only done a few days but it has been fun to watch Bubs scribble with a purpose. He has had very little interest in coloring and has poor control of his grasp so this has been good.
The first picture was an omelet with a boy holding a ketchup bottle upside down over it - Bubba was to draw ketchup all over the omelet. He grabbed the red marker and carefully drew squiggles. We talked about how Pop makes GREAT omelets and that picture has been set aside just for Pop.
The next day there was a bald man and we gave him hair. We talked about Grandpa and how he was balding. . . just kidding. We didn't.
The third picture showed three snails with umbrellas (no arms, but umbrellas. Hmm.) and dark clouds in the sky. Bubba was to draw rain. He grabbed his marker and had some fun.
This is dedicated to David Nolda, the biggest Prince fan I know:
Yeah, Purple Rain. Can you believe it? (He didn't like the umbrellas. As he marked them out he said, "Bye Bye Umbrellas. No more umbrellas today." Maybe the "no arms" thing was weirding him out too.)

Miles has really enjoyed Kumon books. He just finished the same book that Bubba is working through. He also really likes the sticker and paste one in the same series.
A neighbor friend of mine just mentioned to me yesterday that her daughter is doing the Kumon program. I had never heard of it before. Sounds interesting and I will be curious what you think about it as you work your way through.
Or maybe Bubba, and rightly so, only wants to see the snails bathing in the purple rain.
