January Reflections: Stillness
"What's wrong with slowing down?" Michael asked, "What's wrong with being still?"
That counselor I mentioned before? Yeah, well that was one of the first things he said to me. In the middle of our first visit; right after he said, "It sounds overwhelmingly busy. Your world sounds exhausting."
Honestly I didn't know whether to laugh in awkward recognition of the truth or cry that someone had put a name to what I was feeling and . . . asked the seemingly impossible: for me to slow down. For me to be still.
Thing is, it seems to be a theme at this stage of my life.
I volunteer in children's worship and hear the children sing, "Be still and know that I am God."
I'm reading the book Shopping for Time, by the gals over at Girl Talk, and the second point in their book is: Be Still!
Michael tells me WEEKLY to slow down and be still.
This reflection prompt asked if we planned to be still in this new year.
Like that song says, "it goes on and on and on."
SO I have a plan to be still. Is that an oxymoron? I don't think so. I am trusting that my high speed life/family will benefit as will my own soul/spirit.
I'll let you know.

I think plans for stillness are brilliant. I need one.
My priorities have been in the forefront of my mind the past day or so, so I can relate to the need for stillness and denial of stuff to do (that I really want to do). Would love to hear your plan, but will be praying that even in the midst of life with young ones, you will make/have/find time for being still.
interesting, we're reading a book in our community group (in Philadelphia) on prayer - it's by Paul Miller - and the first thing we talked about this past week is just how difficult it is for us to stand still.
One of the other things we talked about is how difficult it is to admit to that in the moment...
Thanks for your honesty!
Awesome, Becky! I can't wait to hear what the Lord will do! Thanks for sharing it.
