Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it? We had Little's kindergarten screening on Friday morning and God knew I wouldn't be able to pull it together for a party that afternoon. (I'll post about the screening another time) The celebration as a family was just enough - cramming a party in there would have been too much. We got to have a lovely afternoon and evening and will get to enjoy the party this week too. God is good. All the time.
So, we had a strudel from Straubs for breakfast and Little was thrilled. She wore her birthday shirt to her screening and announced that it was, indeed, her birthday shirt to everyone there. (If you are new to the Blue Hutch, you can read more about our birthday shirts here.) We had Chick-fil-a for dinner and played on the playground in the mall and then returned home for cake and presents. Photos following:
See this cheesy grin? Talk about developmentally delayed! Most kids start doing a cheesy grin when you say "smile" when they are three or so. Not our Little. She just started. Now. Age Five. Great.
Here's this year's shirt. The purses are in honor of the dress-up party that wasn't.
Our yearly picture with Mr. Frog. Just love these.
The cake actually matches the purse on Little's shirt that is the furthest to your left. I am sure it will end up on the Cake Wrecks blog, but Little said it was her favorite part of her day. That's all I need to know.
She giggled the whole time we sang and even, to my delight, gave us a, "What are you singin' to me?"
When I told her there would be presents, Little said, "And I'll rip them." There you go.
It was a good day. We are looking forward to this Friday when "my friends come over for my tea party." Pray it goes well - and that folks are well. KB threw up last night and just had the grossest diaper I have seen in all my years of mommying and babysitting. Heaven help me.

Happy B'day, Little! And the cake is adorable!
The cake is wonderful - NOT a candidate for Cake Wrecks!!! So glad she loved it.
Beck.....she is growing growing growing....oh! my!
Love to you and yours,
~Mad
Thanks for posting, and I thought the cake was the best! Also, we will be praying that party goes well and KB feels better. :)
i made a rainbow cake...the same shape. and it was a MESS! we had to use uncooked spaghetti noodles to hold it together. :) your cake looks fabulous in the pictures. so cute!
praying for all to get well and grace for processing the screening results. love you.
Happy Birthday to Little! What a cute cake! Will you make another one for the party on Friday? I am glad the day was special for you all and "just enough" without being too much. Hope this Friday is a fun day for Little and you, too!
Okay... oh happy day to our little.
The cake was awesome...
Yet, maybe one more reason I don't think the "mommy" gene will happen to me. You saying the "grossest diaper I have seen in all my years of mommying and babysitting" scares me not just a little but ALOT!! (:
