We had such a great time this past weekend. Kansas City is much more fun than I imagined and there is so much to do. A cold front moved in as we arrived and it SNOWED all day on Saturday, but we had a lovely time in spite of gray weather.
Kansas City barbecue is supposed to be amazing and so we decided to try it out and make up our own minds. We started Friday night with Arthur Bryant's and I must say the atmosphere alone was worth the drive. Yummy food, great conversation, cute date - what more could a girl ask for?

After dinner we went bowling. Isn't that just what you would think we would do? Well, that's why we did it. I don't think I have been bowling in 10 years at least and KC has this "bowling lounge" downtown called The Lucky Strike. Basically it is an upscale bowling alley for those with ADD. It was so loud we couldn't talk to each other, but it was also fun times.
Jeremy won after coming back from WAY behind. We only played the one game and then moved on to check out the Kansas City Power and Light District.
They have built this area downtown that is just so fun. It's all restaurants and pubs and they line the four sides of a city block and all open into a huge open-air, yet covered, courtyard. The courtyard had fire "pits" burning, tables for dining/talking, "couches" built into the walls and lined with pillows, and a jumbo tron that was playing the Syracuse/Oklahoma game.
We snuggled in and watched the game. SO FUN. My honey, fire light, and basketball. Good times.
Saturday included a visit to the Crown Center:
Crayola Cafe/store
Wizard of Oz Exhibit
Gates Barbecue for lunch
"Duplicity" at the Cinemark Plaza theatre
We liked the taste of Gates barbecue best but the atmosphere was just like a family style restraunt. The movie theatre was cool - you had to go across the street - in the air - in one of those things I can't think of the name of to get to the actual theatres. It was a great movie - good twists, good acting, laughs.
After cheesecake at the Cheesecake factory and a discussion about defining our family values and battle cry "for now" - we headed to the hotel for more basketball and sleep.
Sunday Honey went to the WW1 museum while I stayed behind and planned for the week. It was nice for both of us to have quiet time alone before heading back to the chaos of home.
What a treat. It's nice to have fun together; be reminded of how much one likes one's spouse; remember why you fell in love in the first place; and sleep until . . well, only 7:30 but still!

Gates BBQ was our favorite too! Glad you had a good time!
My favorite picture is the one of you and Jeremy at Gates BBQ. Funny!
Glad you guys had such a great time! Travis and I spent a lot of our time in KC when we were dating...he had an internship there that summer. A lot of the places you went hold special memories for us, too! It is a fun city.
Mmm...you are making me want to go get some BBQ! Glad y'all had fun!
you make cute munchkins!
Sounds like a great weekend--both for you and Jeremy and your kids. Glad you had fun! I loved reading Anna's blog and getting all the details of her time with your kids. I hope you don't wait another 5 years to take a weekend away :)!
I'm so thankful you were able to get away! Next time, come a little farther west. :) We sure do miss you guys.
