Cue Hallelujah Chorus

Did you hear me screaming on Sunday? Did you feel the earth move under your feet as I sighed with relief and contentment? Didja???

After five years I finished THE QUILT! That's right, folks.  It is finished.  It is adorable.  It was worth every stitch and every minute of five years.

I washed it on Monday and had it on Little's bed when she got home from school.  She went upstairs to change clothes (as is her daily ritual. . . that girl can get into her jammies faster than you can say "Bob's your uncle.") and I heard a squeal; a literal squeal.

There was an "oooooh" and a "WOE" and then she started talking to whomever could hear, "Did you finish my quilt? Did you make my bed? Isn't it beautiful? It is wonderful.  I looove it.  My bed is so pretty." and on and on.

I sat on the steps for a second and listened and then went up to see her.  She turned to me and said, "Did you finish my quilt?"  I said, "Yes.  Do you like it?"

She answered, "I love it.  I can sleep with it and it will keep me warm.  And I can play games on it."  Then, for the first time in weeks (maybe ever), she went downstairs and, instead of playing her Leapster in Bubs' room, she grabbed a cartridge and returned to play on her own bed.

If I had finished the quilt when she was 2 (like I planned) she wouldn't have had such a great response.  She wouldn't have really noticed.  This was MUCH better.

When Bubs got home from school I told him that Little wanted him to go up and see her bed.  He went up and I heard her say, "What are you doing in here? Did you come to see my bed? Isn't it wonderful?"  He responded, "Yes.  Now you need a pillow too."  Little's reply, "Yep.  I sure do."

Adorable.

Monday night - last night - our seven year old slept under covers for the first time since she was five months old.  She slept under it ALL NIGHT LONG.  She is under it again tonight.  That is just so fun.

Oh, and you see the pictures over the bed? Well, they were too much over the small bookshelf  and overpowered the dresser, so they are lined up over her bed.  Honey hung them up on Saturday and Little fell asleep looking at them.  Sunday night she asked her daddy, "Daddy, can I fall asleep looking at my pictures again?"  SO AWESOME.

And now, Cris Bryan, wherever you are, I will be mailing you a photo of the dream quilt become reality, your walking foot, and my humblest apologies for having it so long.

Becky, it is beautiful--the room, the quilt, the pictures, EVERYTHING!! What precious words to a mother's heart! I love that you didn't give up on the quilt, even if it did take 5 years--a great example of persistance :) (That topic has come up of late at our house). Way to go!
