KB Turns 1

We have friends who gave birth to their first child a couple years before we had Little. I remember Stephanie saying on Hogan's first birthday that they would plan to take all their children to the zoo for their first birthday - a family tradition.

When it came time for Little's first birthday, I sat down to think through what would be best for HER in the place that God had her right then. Little wasn't walking, was barely sitting up and mostly just liked music and lights. Music and Lights? A carousel!!! So we invited two of our close friends and we all went to ride a 100 year old carousel here in town. Little LOVED the lights and music . . . a great success. (I can't find a picture to save my life - I will now breathe through the stress and continue my post. Photo recovery is a job for super genius husband.)

At the end of the afternoon I turned to Honey and said, "Why don't we plan to take all of our children to ride the carousel on their first birthday?" and he thought that was a great idea.

We took Bubba for his first and had close family friends join us:

Friday was KB's big day. We had a party at the park all planned; including ride on the same carousel as siblings, picnic in the park, and daisy cupcakes. God had other plans. It rained and was COLD! So, an hour before the celebration we changed the party location to the mall (can you believe that??) and packed everything up for the drive - except the food. Thankfully we were in the mall and their was a food court.

Anyway, KB got her carousel ride. The children seemed to enjoy it but I know that 50% of the adults were sick by the end of the first ride. Look at KB's face - so fun!
After the carousel and visits to Subway, Burger King, Johnny Rockets and Popeyes, we had cake. KB was itching to touch the flame and then hesitant with the eating. She loved the marshmallow, liked the cake, and almost choked (actually turning blue once) to death three times. Good times.
After talking about the cupcakes ALL DAY, Little was thrilled to sink her teeth into the tasty goodness.
Bubba, of course, took a very neat approach.
Per tradition, KB got her first birthday tshirt.
The paper wasn't coming off fast enough and so we got the frustrated face. I have a real love/hate relationship with that expression.
It was fine - we should have stayed home for many reasons, but KB got her carousel ride and loved it.

I can't believe my baby is ONE!

I can't decide which of all those pictures is my favorite - I think the green mustache!
I love your blog and keeping up. I found out yesterday that someone in my family actually does read my blog - who knew??

What a great 1st birthday party! I can't believe KB is one! I loved the cupcakes and the t-shirt. She will love looking back at your pictures one day and feel special knowing that you planned a party just for her :).

I love the pictures- I know that feeling of loving and hating "a face" that they make. So glad you caught it in a picture. I am so glad you posted a picture of the first birthday t-shirt. I was wondering what you would do :) hugs

What a great idea to start a 1st year birthday tradition. I love all the pictures. Looks like the kids had a lot of fun. I think my favorite is of Bubba in the first cupcake picture. His face is so endearing as he watches his little sister. I love it.
