Kids Say the Darndest Things

We have lived in this house just shy of a year - we're talking 11 months - and yesterday one of my bigger fears was recognized. Yesterday Little fell down the stairs.

The stairs here are so steep and no one is allowed to go up or down without mommy and daddy. Little has gotten so much better at stairs and with her growing confidence has come the proverbial "pushing of the envelope". Yesterday we were all headed upstairs for something. I had KB in my arms and Bubba was doing a lap around the kitchen table before joining me at the stairs. Little decided not to wait on us and when I approached the bottom of the stairs it was just in time to see her rolling - not falling as much as rolling - down the stairs.

It all happened so fast but I swooped KB onto the carpeted den floor as I stuck my leg out to stop Little and then swooped her into my arms (alot of swooping - sorry). I was panicked but tried to stay calm - she was screaming. As I hugged her and tried to look her over, my heart racing she began to quiet and just whimper a bit. I felt three bumps on her head so I was checking pupils, etc. Then Little said, "I hurt my finger."

OH MY WORD!!! Little has never told us anything hurts - - she never really feels pain. (How do I know? She bit through her tongue and didn't care!) So, yipee #1 she felt pain. Yipee #2 the finger is fine. She started fidgeting and I said, "Little, let me check you over." Her reply? "Mom (not mommy, but mom) I think I am going to be okay now."

Great.

Thank you, Jesus, for protecting our Little. And thank you that she is going to be okay now. And thanks for letting her tell me.

I am so thankful for this - for her words and feelings! She sounds so mature! I keep up with your blog and love that you post so often. I am also enjoying all of your grocery, organizational & crafty tips. I don't know how you do it with those 3 kiddos! We have a blog as well: http://casadewood.blogspot.com
Just in case you want to keep up with those crazy Woods!

So horrible....yet so wonderful all at the same time. I'm so sorry for little and for you, "mom" who was scared to death. She is getting to be such a big girl!
