Happy Anniversary?

Well, our life is never without drama.

First you need to know that our pediatrician is great. We had a rocky start with Lily but now have a mutual respect and I feel really cared for by the practice. One of the things I like about Esse Health is that they give handouts when you leave the office. Each is different - the last visit I went to found me carrying home a handout on 2 month vaccinations (what are they, arguments for pros/cons, etc.) and a sheet on KB that told her stats, dosages for any medications, and hints for helping her over the next two months (no honey in her bottle!, if she has a fever over 100 call in, don't smoke). The doctor briefly reads through these hints/instructions at the end of the visit and asks if there are questions. Since KB has been with us, I have heard Dr. Dave read the fever instructions at least four times - each was a brisk recitation with an air of "that's not going to happen." Monday night - two hours before our 7Th anniversary dinner date - KB's fever hit 100.8!

So, I did what I tell my own children to do - I obeyed. . . first time. I called the doctor and his response was, "That is really high for a baby her age." So it was off to the emergency room! Seriously! A baby that little has such limited immunities that a bacteria could kill them within a day, so we had xrays, urine tests, blood tests, and a spinal tap! Then we were checked into the pediatric wing for what we were told would be a 48 hour stay! Seriously! Thankfully the sitters who were coming for our dinner came on and Jeremy was able to come to the hospital too. Thankfully, he got there right AFTER all the tests.

We are home now. 12 hours earlier than they predicted. KB's fever started to come down that night as she was given antibiotics and fluids. She looks great and sounds great except for the congestion/runny nose. She has a double ear infection and that is no fun but she is handling it like a trooper. All cultures have come back negative for bacteria and we are grateful.

So, I would like to reiterate that our pediatrician is great. I am so thankful for his carefullness. Thing is, he is not quick to run lots of tests so I knew that if he ordered these, they were necessary. Praise God for protecting our little girl.

My sister arrives today and the first order of business is a nap for me :) But since our life never looks quite like we thought it would, we'll see how that goes.
